March 31st, 2011 (Day 90)

Life was always my favorite board game as a kid. I was super excited to see they have it at my internship. Today I played Life with a couple of the girls who were there. It's just a funny game. I was talking to one of the staff members about it. The object of the Game of Life is retire with the most money. Great message, eh?

I liked my particular life this game. I decided not to get married (probably breaking the rules, but how dare they be so presumptuous about marriage!), and I was an artist who made 60 grand a year and lived in a beach house. Not a bad life! One of the girls (I think she is 13) decided to marry another woman. I felt we were a pretty radical group playing this board game. It was fun.

March 30th, 2011 (Day 89)

So the once large summer road trip was finalized into a smaller more condensed trip!

This is the revised plan. We'll be spending two nights with my aunt in Chattanooga, four nights in New Orleans, and on the way home we'll be stopping in Memphis for one night and Mammoth Cave on the way home. I'm excited. We booked the hotel rooms tonight so it is finalized!

March 29th, 2011 (Day 88)

Today was a dreaded Tuesday! I hate Tuesdays. I have to get up at 7am and then intern from 8-4. After interning I drive back to my apartment and have approximately 45 minutes in between getting home and leaving for class. And then of course class from 5:30-8:15. It's a long day! The one thing that made this Tuesday special was getting to hang out with Corinne and Rachel during that 45 minute time span!

The good news is that I only have 4 more Tuesdays this semester to get through!

March 28th, 2011 (Day 87)

As a tradition, my grandpa always gives us his change jar that he puts his daily spare change in throughout the year. Usuaully he gives us all the coins to cash in on Christmas but this year we forgot. He just gave them to us last week.

I took it to coin star and it was over $70! Of course that had to be split evenly in half, but still not bad to get some extra money in your wallet. It is funny my grandpa still does that even though we're about to be 21! I definitely can't complain.

Sunday, March 27, 2011

March 27th, 2011 (Day 86)

Today I got to see an old friend I haven't seen in years. Pretty crazy!

Saturday, March 26, 2011

March 26th, 2011 (Day 85)

Today we went to my grandma's and celebrated my dad's birthday a few days late. Anyway, when I was in TX visiting Katie we were talking about all the old books that used to be hers that she and my grandma read to me when I was little. There was this awesome book about a family whose apple tree grew too many apples and they did all these bizarre things with them. At my grandma's today I asked her if she still had the books and she did! Reading them again was so cool and a trip down memory lane. So fun :)

March 25th, 2011 (Day 84)

I think my dream car would be a green Ford Fiesta! I love them. They're so cute. And someone in my parking lot has one. I feel like it is always parked next to me when I go to leave anywhere. It just teases me!

One day!

March 24th, 2011 (Day 83)

Happy 42nd birthday to my wonderful dad! I didn't get to see him today because I had to be at my internship for 8 hours today. We are going to celebrate on Saturday though.

My picture of the day is a digi-macro picture of raspberries. Because raspberries are delicious and such a pretty color. Ok, really it's because at 10pm I realized I didn't take any pictures today (boring day, slept in and then interned for 8 hours). This will have to do! Yay for dieting and having lots of gorgeous produce to eat.

March 23rd, 2011 (Day 82)

As I was doing my homework, I noticed the pattern of the titles of my peers' discussion question responses. Of course I had to follow the pattern. I wonder if it was intentional before my post and if so when did my peers catch on? I know I'm a dork! It amused me though.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

March 22nd, 2011 (Day 81)

At my internship today one of the staff members brought a bunch of yarn and crochet needles to teach the residents to crochet as a stress reliever/craft project. Unfortunately the needles were cheap ones from the dollar store and she didn't realize they were incredibly tiny. So, crocheting was a bit of a challenge with such small needles. Regardless, I learned the basics and I'm really excited! I want to buy my own (larger) needle and yarn and practice on my own time!

Yay for learning a new potential hobby.

March 21st, 2011 (Day 80)

While I was in Texas I got to use my aunt's Shellac nail polish treatment she bought. It's marketed towards salons/nail technicians but she bought the stuff off ebay and is able to give herself manicures with the special polishes (top coat, colors, and base coat) and a UV light. She let both me and Lauren do our nails while we were down there. Apparently it lasts for 2 weeks without chipping or anything. It is so glossy and smooth feeling, it is almost like having acrylics on!

Anyway, I love it! Sorry for the crappy webcam picture but I'm too lazy to upload one.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

March 20th, 2011 (Day 79)

So sad to leave Texas today. It was so nice to just relax and spend quality time with the family and the baby Jake!

I will miss him so much <3>

Saturday, March 19, 2011

March 19th, 2011 (Day 78)

We went out to brunch earlier in the day and then took Jake to Gymboree and he was kind of grumpy there.

He was much happier back at home after he took a nap and had a bottle!

And then we celebrated my grandpa's birthday at home with grilled steaks, asparagus, and baked potatoes. Oh and a delicious carrot cake for dessert!

We had another great day today in Texas. I will be sad to leave tomorrow.

Friday, March 18, 2011

March 18th, 2011 (Day 77)

Today was our first full day in Dallas. We had a really awesome day today spent with family! I loved it.

Thursday, March 17, 2011

March 17th, 2011 (Day 76)

Happy St. Patty's Day!

We flew into Dallas this evening and got to meet baby Jake aka the cutest little chunker in the world!

I love this picture of Katie and Jake and the dogs! So cute! I am super excited for the rest of the weekend. :)

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

March 16th, 2011 (Day 75)

I ran into Candice and Paul today at Partridge Creek. It was the most beautiful day ever. It was 55 degrees and it was sunny with a nice breeze. It was seriously my ideal temperature, I loved it! It was the first real spring day so far and I am welcoming it with open arms! Anyway, I ran into Candice and Paul at PC and then we went into Love Culture where Amber works. It was like a reunion of Animal Activity Center (AAC) people! We all worked there at one point or another, most of us all together at the same time too! It was good to see all of them.
Paul and Candice agreed to be photographed for my blog.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

March 15h, 2011 (Day 74)

Today was a nice relaxing day. Except for when my Macbook charger stopped working and made me semi-panicked. Life without a Macbook would not be fun! I went to the Apple store and they gave me a new one for free even though my warranty expired. I would have had to pay $80 for it if Apple's customer service wasn't so amazing. It made my day!

Having lunch with one of my BFFs also made my day! PF Changs is where we like to be "partners" haha. Love you Annmarie!

Monday, March 14, 2011

March 14th, 2011 (Day 73)

Happy Pi Day! I made this pie to celebrate my 30 lb weight loss (I've been jonesing for some yummy dessert and finally got around to making it) and just now realized it's Pi Day. How fitting!
Peanut butter chocolate pie with Reese's peanut butter cups on top.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

March 12th, 2011 (Day 71)

Finally got to see Waiting for Superman tonight. I've been wanting to see it since I first saw a trailer for it over a year ago. I felt like someone stabbed me in the heart when I was watching it. Very sad and eye opening. It made me think of John Mayer's song Waiting on the World to Change. I really feel like my generation is going to be the generation that stops WAITING for things to change and actually take initiative to make those changes. When I think of my friends, the people surrounding me, who are currently in college we are all going to school to obtain "helping" degrees. Social workers and teachers make up the bulk of us.

The notion of "waiting" for things to get better...waiting for hope to come...that just makes me sad. We need to go out and exert ourselves, and now I must quote Gandhi, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

I'm done preaching!

Friday, March 11, 2011

March 11th, 2011 (Day 70)

One of my kids at tutoring took this picture of me. I think it is a really bad angle, but I kind of like it. This is their "teacher" and their perspective on my job! Kind of cool.

Thursday, March 10, 2011

March 10th, 2011 (Day 69)

March is Social Work Month!(In other words, nothing extraordinary happened today. So we will celebrate Social Work Month today!)

Wednesday, March 9, 2011

March 9th, 2011 (Day 68)

This morning I had a meeting with an advisor to talk about my field placement (internship) for all of next year. She seemed pretty confident that she would be able to place me in some type of adoption and/or foster care type of agency. I am really excited to see what that is all about, to explore if it is really what I want to do with my life after I graduate or not!

Anyway, the Thompson Home is where the School of Social Work is located. It is my second favorite Wayne State University campus building (#1 is Old Main which I know I've posted a picture of in here before). I think it is so pretty!

March 8th, 2011 (Day 67)

So close to 30! I can't wait!

Monday, March 7, 2011

March 7th, 2011 (Day 66)

I feel so good inside when my mom: "Win sey hogs me" aka "when she hugs me"

My mom is the prettiest when: "there in hire poejams" aka "shes in her pajamas"

When my mom is happy she: "wache tv" aka "watches tv"

When my mom is not working, her favorite thing to do is: "ozz kost" aka "Ozzy Osbourn concert"

My favorite thing to do with my mom is: "swt hr with the hos" aka "squirt her with the hose"

Today my mom showed me the funniest thing. A book I made for her in Kindergarten for Mother's Day. For the record, I never remember squirting my mother with the hose. Haha.

Sunday, March 6, 2011

March 6th, 2011 (Day 65)

Today was a lazy boring day. I had fun having dinner with my mom. She was kind enough to give me a pedicure. My toes look cute. I feel like they photograph weird though, so I will offer this picture for today.Do you like my lips post collagen injections?

Saturday, March 5, 2011

March 5th, 2011 (Day 64)

I absolutely love grocery stores. I don't think I could have survived in a time without them.

I mean, look at this. An isle dedicated just for POP. An isle full of various kinds of pop. It's amazing when you think about it. We have such a variety of things available to us. I think it's a little excessive.

Friday, March 4, 2011

March 4th, 2011 (Day 63)

I got to have a quiet night at home with my best friend and it was really nice to talk and spend time together.

Love you best friend!

Thursday, March 3, 2011

March 3rd, 2011 (Day 62)

I really enjoy spending time at my internship. It is a short term residential facility so kids are in and out every week or so. It is always interesting to see what type of energy is in the house since it is constantly changing. The group that was there tonight has been there for the past 3 times I've done my internship. The kids are a lot of fun. They're on a big Monopoly kick lately and today I got to play Monopoly. It was fun!

All my money and properties.

I totally kicked ass at it.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

March 2nd, 2011 (Day 61)

I was very productive today. I went grocery shopping, wrote a paper, and did another assignment. It felt good to get this homework that was lingering over my head out of the way!

The paper I had to write was pretty confusing when it first presented itself, but I'm glad that I was able to work through it and am pretty proud of it!

Random note. My birthday is in exactly 2 months from today. Woohoo for being 21 soon!

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

March 1st, 2011 (Day 60)

Class was really interesting tonight. Our professor arranged for a guest speaker to come in and talk to us about adoption. She had the perspective of being a social worker who actually adopted a kid. I thought it was really interesting because I will probably be a social worker who adopts a kid at some point in my life! The woman talked about her experience with adoption and her 11 year old son came too and talked to the class. He was so adorable and funny. I really enjoyed listening to both of them talk so much!

My perspective of class tonight. The guest speaker, her son, my professor, and a girl in my class. Remember, the entire class sits in a circle.
