October 31st, 2011 (Day 304)

Happy Halloween! It is hard to believe it is Halloween already. I interned today (short day) and then ran some errands.

This is the envelope they gave me at the bank. It kind of made my day that someone took the time to decorate the envelops for everyone. The little things in life!

October 30th, 2011 (Day 303)

Sunday Funday! I slept in today, got the house ready for the family to come home, had lunch (yummy leftovers from my cousin), and headed back home. As I was leaving their house, I stopped to walk down their (long) driveway and realized fall is almost over. My most favorite season is fall and my favorite month is October. It went by way too quick. I'm sad to see it go and not ready for winter!

I took some pictures of the street.

I know I've mentioned on my blog before how much I adore the architecture of the Grosse Pointe homes, but now that it is fall and there are gorgeous colors of nature surrounding the homes, I thought I would feature them again in my blog!

Love fall.

Jess and Annie both stopped by later tonight which was unexpected and welcomed! It was nice to see Jess especially, I never get to see her anymore. And of course it was good to see Annie! :P

October 29th, 2011 (Day 302)

I had a nice Saturday The girls both left kind of early to get home and work on homework. I went back to bed for a little bit after. I got back up and was taking care of the pets, when my little cousins bombarded me (they live a block away and knew I was in town). Their friends live in the house I house-sit for, so they made themselves right at home with their two friends. I got cider and apples and peanut butter for the four of them and they started playing the game of Life!

They were adorable.

After they left, I had a relaxing afternoon alone. I reacquainted myself with Sims 3 and played for a few hours! Just when I was getting sick of it, my cousin Kym invited me over for dinner.

When I was over their house for dinner, I noticed this hilarious gem on their piano. Apparently when my youngest cousin Parker (5 years old) was over his grandparent's house (my great aunt and uncle) he scanned his finger thinking he was being a little bad ass. He didn't realize he had the wrong finger! It made me laugh so much and I loved that his parents found the humor in it and had it displayed in their house! They are awesome. It was nice to catch up with the family and have dinner with them!

When I got home that night, I watched Mona Lisa Smile On Demand. I forgot how much I love this movie! Mental note! It is very empowering and inspiring. Love it!

October 28th, 2011 (Day 301)

Today we had a party at my internship for all the kids! It was fun. It was nice to meet some of the kids who I haven't met yet, and have just heard about or read about in their charts! We had arts and crafts, dinner, dessert, candy, presents, decoration contest, and costume parade. I had a good time.

After the party I headed out to Grosse Pointe, to house-sit for the weekend. I expected it to be a quiet night in, but to my surprise Annie and Corinne came out for an adult sleep-over/muff-diving fest (inside joke after the night was over).

While I was waiting for them to come over, I was just hanging out. I felt a little something on my leg and when I looked down I found this! Benny, the kitty! I'm normally not a big cat person but he can be so cute. It warms my heart.

Once the girls came over, Corinne had the idea of getting Captain's, cider, and candy (M&M's specifically) and I'm glad we did! We drank, snacked, watched Spice World and Are You Afraid of the Dark. Major 90's throwback! I loved reminiscing and spending time with my friends. :)

October 27th, 2011 (Day 300)

Today I had to intern. I found out that I got switched departments, so now I am in the mentoring department instead of adoptions. If you told me at the beginning of my internship that I'd be excited about this switch, I'd have told you you were crazy! But the adoptions supervisor is someone I am not very fond of and I don't feel like she treats interns very well. So, I was so relieved to learn about this switch! The mentoring supervisor is really sweet, and I know she wants me to get the most out of my intern experience.

After interning I had a nice nap. Later in the evening, Rachel and Annie came over. We had a usual hang out sesh, which is always appreciated after a long day!

October 26th, 2011 (Day 299)

Today was a boring stir-crazy day! I attempted to drive for the first time since breaking my foot, and it still hurts pretty bad and was kind of an unsuccessful attempt. :-/

Since Lauren is in NYC, my dad and I decided to go out to dinner just the two of us. We never spend time together just us two. It was really nice! Dad and his happy plate. :)

I love my dad! He is such a good guy.

October 25th, 2011 (Day 298)

Today I had the day off. Normally I would work 2-9 at the AAC, but I'm off work there for a few weeks due to the broken foot. I was very accomplished today, I feel like. I finished my midterm for my policy class and wrote my paper for my group class!

Yay for being hardworking and studious!

My computer screen looked like this most of the day--class syllabus for reference, example paper for reference, my paper...along with scattered open books in front of me!

Glad to cross these things off my agenda...best type of satisfaction there is. :P

October 24th, 2011 (Day 297)

Today was not the normal Monday! After interning today, I had the Lights concert!

I went with Mallory, Rachel, and Christina.

Lights was pretty amazing.

I love her!

It is extremely hard to get good pictures during her concert because of the trippy lights show that goes on the entire time! As Christina said, I guess it is fitting for her name!

The concert was pretty awesome! It was a good day!

October 23rd, 2011 (Day 296)

Sunday funday...not really! Today was kind of boring. I didn't do much. My mom came to visit me and wanted to check out the Sears outlet to buy some pants since she has been losing weight. I went with her. They were having a sale this week promoting their grand opening (Saturday) and their pants were only $5 a pair. So, I bought two more pairs of linen pants that I had previously gotten from there, in different colors. Khaki for me and chocolate for Lauren.

Nothing else really happened today. Just hung out at home, spent too much (unproductive) time online really.

The highlight of my day was my dad FINALLY hooking up cable in my room. I haven't had it since I moved back home from Detroit in May. With a broken foot it will be really nice to have cable in my room, less going up and down the stairs!

Oliver was also excited to hang out in my bed with me and watch cable tv!

October 22nd, 2011 (Day 295)

Earlier on today, Britty stopped over and had a visit with me. It has been a while since I have seen her to it was good to catch up. I love that girl to death!

Later on, Joey had a bonfire/potluck out at his parent's house in Romeo. They have a lot of property, and it was gorgeous this time of year!

The view from their backyard, just past the trees goes down to a little lake area, which is where we later had the bonfire!

Love my friends!

Girls down at the bonfire!

It was a perfect fall night!

October 21st, 2011 (Day 294)

This morning I had the most AMAZING opportunity! I went to court for my internship and watched an adoption take place. It was a couple who was adopting their 2 year old biological niece and their 14 year old (non-related) foster daughter on the same day. It was such a happy morning, it totally made my week. I could be a part of that every day for the rest of my life and never get sick of it! So much joy and happiness were a resulted.

After this morning, you might as well just designate it an Annmarie and Andrea girlfriend day. We went out to dinner at Shogun and got the yummy habachi grill. Then we went to the store to buy supplies to make s'mores treats for the bonfire we're going to tomorrow. We got back home and made the treats. A little bit later on we went to the bar with Lauren, Ross, Annie, and Rachel for a drink and half-off appetizers!

It was a good day!

Annmarie trying to compete with me for cutest boot :P

October 20th, 2011 (Day 293)

Today was an intern day! On the 28th, we are having a Halloween party at the office for the foster kids. They are coming trick-or-treating at each office/cubicle and the staff is all going to dress up too and pass out candy to the kids. There is also a contest for the best decorated office/cubicle. The staff wins a free paid day off. Obviously the interns will not benefit from that, but we wanted to be festive and decorate anyway! We decorated our area, and spent $0 doing so!

The intern area before being decorated!

After! We were pretty proud of our work. No, this is not a typical day of interning, our supervisor was gone all morning so we decided this would be a nice way to spend the morning!

October 19th, 2011 (Day 292)

Rain rain go away!

This afternoon I had to myself. I wanted to relax but I was good and accomplished a lot of homework.

I discovered my package had been delivered! It brought me some joy.

My awesome new nail polish colors! I gave myself a pedicure (decidedly hard with a broken foot) and used Bogie (the purple color the left) on my toes and Short & Sassy (the red second to left) on my fingers. Love my new polishes!

I had my seminar class tonight as well and there was so much rain and water on the freeway. I was nervous the whole time that the car would hydroplane! We got there and back safely though. Seminar was kind of boring tonight, good thing it is only every other week!

Later on, Lauren, Ross, and I went to Shelby's house. We work with her at the AAC. She is funny, I like her! We got to see her new apartment.

October 18th, 2011 (Day 291)

Bright and early I had my doctor's appointment with the orthopedic surgeon (out in Troy). Mina drove me since I can't drive myself. The appointment went well. I found out I won't need surgery and I won't need a cast. They gave me a super attractive removable walking cast boot and compression stockings (so I don't get blood clots in my legs) which are also very attractive. Ha. After my appointment I had to go to the medical supply store to get fitted for the walking cast and stockings. I also got a new medication which makes me sleepy but at least helps with my foot pain. I have to wear the boot and stocking basically all the time, except when I'm sleeping and showering. I have my follow up appointment in 4 weeks. When I can start driving or go back to work depends on how my foot feels.

After all the running around in the morning (and my nap that followed), I had to go down to my internship for a few hours to help out with a foster parent support group meeting. It was very interesting! Thankfully Mallory lives so close and we intern together and she can drive me...or else I'd probably have to miss a bunch of days interning!

My awesome new walking cast extreme boot. I would say I hate it, but it actually does help me a lot. I can walk without being in extreme pain with every step I take! (Oh, and that is just half of it. I goes all the way up to my knee.)

October 17th, 2011 (Day 290)

Today was a bit of a break. I was planning to go into my internship late and intern from 1-9, because from 6-9 they were having a foster parent training session. Well, they changed the date at the last minute, so I only ended up interning from 1-5. After that I just went home.

I just had to put up my feet at home and relax for the rest of the day. Tomorrow is my appointment with the orthopedic surgeon, so I'll find out more about my broken foot.

I think Oliver knows I broke my foot. He was such a cutie and wanted to cuddle an extra lot today!

October 16th, 2011 (Day 289)

Today was pretty horrible. Last night I was jumping on the trampoline, like I do daily, and I lost my footing. I kind of slipped and my foot ended up going through the trampoline, between two springs, and landing really roughly (and really wrong!) on the ground. The trampoline is only about a foot or 18 inches off the ground, it isn't one of those huge ones.

Anyway, today I had to get up at 5:30am for work. I was hoping my foot would feel better today but it actually felt worse. I knew I couldn't call in to work because no one was going to answer their phone at 6am on a Sunday morning. Work was just so hard to do, trying to handle all the dogs while limping. I cried a few different times just out of pain and frustration. I tried calling/texting basically all of my co-workers to see if someone could come cover for me so I could go to Urgent Care for an x-ray. No one could. Finally the girl who was relieving me at 2pm said she could come in early. So, around noon I left work and my mom took me to Urgent Care.

We were there for a few hours. The xray came back showing that the metatarsal bone underneath my big toe was fractured/chipped...aka broken. I am not excited to have my first broken bone ever.

The entire xray.

Close up of the piece of bone that fractured off.

October 15th, 2011 (Day 288)

I have been quite addicted to nail polish. I can't really explain it. For the past 6 months or so I have been obsessed with painting my nails at least once a week and just spending a lot more time on nail care than ever in the past. This has moved along to an obsession with buying new nail polishes. I bought 4 the other day and then ordered 6 more (China Glazes) online!

Here is my current collection (the lighting was horrible):

My entire collection.

My favorite, most used colors. :P

I had a really nice day today spending time with my mom and Lauren!

October 14th, 2011 (Day 287)

No other words to describe last night other than "Four Loko." I will present to you four pictures with progressive "loco-ness" :P

"Oh yeah, unopened can of Four Loko! Tonight should be a freakin' fun time! Hanging out with some of my best friends....bring on the night!"

Hanging out with friends, a little beer pong.

Looking nice and put together.

Ohhh...look at that. Done-zo for the night! Boob trying to escape body. Thanks for the blackmail picture Annmarie!

October 13th, 2011 (Day 286)

Today was productive. I went down to WSU to meet my friend Colleen from class at the SSW lab and we worked on an assignment together using the SPSS program in the lab. I went home and wrote a paper afterwards (it was only 3 pages, but still)!

I even had time to catch up on my TV shows that I neglected to watch during the week. I watched almost 3 straight hours of tv on my laptop. It was nice!

Then Rachel came and picked me up because she wanted to check out the Sears outlet after hearing what good deals we got yesterday. I didn't think I would buy anything, but much to my surprised I bought 3 pairs of pants. Each pair was $7, so I got three pairs of pants for just over $20 total. You can't beat that! One pair is a nice pair of professional looking denim for my internship and then two pairs of linen pants (one grey and one olive) which fit perfectly because they actually had size petites. I was way too excited about that. Most pants are WAY too long on me. I felt like I hit the jackpot! Rach and I went to Wildflower for dinner after shopping. I love that place, it's just comforting.

I stopped over Annie's for a few hours to visit her. We had a nice visit chatting and catching up since we don't get to hang out like every night like we used to since this semester has been super busy for everyone! I also painted my nails one of my new colors and I really like it.

I liked today!

Boring picture to represent the day, but I can confidently say I learned something today! I am SPSS' (computer program kind of like Excel) biatch!

October 12th, 2011 (Day 285)

I was so happy to have a true day off today! I slept in...dicked around... went shopping with Lauren. We checked out the new Sears outlet store and I finally fulfilled my bucket list item of owning a green peacoat. The best part was that it was only $13 at the Sears outlet! AMAZING! I also got 4 new nail polishes today, I tried to pick colors I wouldn't normally go for as I was getting sick of all my (similar) color choices.

After shopping with the sis, Rachel and Annmarie (and Fiona!) stopped over and we had a relaxing girls night in.

The new love of my life...it doesn't look boxy on, I think it fits really nicely! I love it!

October 11th, 2011 (Day 284)

Today was such a long day! I had to get up at 7:30am. I had a meeting at 9 with my faculty advisor from WSU at my internship. It only lasted an hour and a half, but driving all the way out to Madison Heights on a day I normally don't have to was a pain! Then I had to work 2-9 afterwards. I was super tired when I got home that night!

The biggest joy of the day...seeing Bella (now Maya) boarding at work! She was our rescue dog for probably close to two years. She got adopted and returned a couple times and always came back to the AAC and basically lived there for too long. She has been with this woman for probably close to 2 years now. The woman loves her for who she is and is able to properly take care of her. I'm just glad she was able to finally find the right person. It broke my heart to see her live at the AAC for so long. The entire staff loved her to death. I got tears in my eyes when I walked by her suite and saw that big pit grin on her face. She was so excited to see me, I definitely think she remembered me. She cried and kissed me for like 5 minutes straight. My baby girl. She is boarded for a week while her owner is on vacation.

And the puppies, even though they're a pain in the ass and little poop machines, they can be so freaking cute! Look at how they sleep!

Dogs make life happier.

October 10th, 2011 (Day 283)

The dreaded Mondays! I don't mind interning, but the 8-4 shifts are not my preferred time. What made today extra special was the package in the mail from my great Aunt Judy. She randomly sent me an antique ring and a check for $50 for no reason! I think that is pretty special to have someone in your life to do random kind things! It made my day.

(My nails are really not painted the gothic black they appear, it's really a dark plum color!)

It is nothing I would have ever picked out for myself but I really like it! It is different and funky.

Sunday, October 9, 2011

October 9th, 2011 (Day 282)

As per my new Sunday routine, work 6am-2pm is the new norm. The shift itself is not bad, it is just waking up so damn early that kills me!

When I was doing my initial walk-through in the morning checking on all the babies, I came across this chocolate lab, Koby, being freaking adorable. He had himself tucked under his blanket on his bed! I wanted to crawl in bed with him and go back to sleep. Haha!

When I took my break and ate my breakfast, I grabbed a magazine from the cupboard in the break room. It was from 2006, and I figured I probably have read it before at one point, but I was bored so I flipped through it again. I came across this ad with some familiar lyrics written on it...and then I realized I wrote them! Haha, no idea how long ago that was. My guess would probably be around 2008. Oh Dashboard Confessional..coming back to haunt me!

After work I took a nap and then worked more on my grad school application. I might be submitting it finally tonight!

October 8th, 2011 (Day 281)

Today was my glorious day off! How did I spend this gorgeous day? Locked in the Haddad household with Rach, Lauren, and Jess. We had a paper-writing/homework day. I worked pretty efficiently and got most of my paper written, that is due next Sunday. I was feeling pretty accomplished!

Not sure how I got things done with these goobers...but it was good to at least be in the presence of my friends today!

Later on I met up with Sarah and we chatted and got caught up in each other's lives. It was nice!

Work at 6am tomorrow. Wahh.

October 7th, 2011 (Day 280)

TGIF...kind of! I worked 2-7 today and spent some time with mom. I caught the last segment of Vh1's Top 100 songs of the 00s. I was feeling all built up anticipating for the #1 song. I was predicting a Lady Gaga song for #1. I was kind of disappointed when it was revealed that it was Beyonce ft. Jay Z Crazy in Love. Meh. I thought the special was pretty fun to watch though. Lots of reminiscing on the past 10 years! I'll definitely have to look up the list online to make some additions to my iPod. :P

Lady Gaga...should have won but got #3!

#1...boo!

Yep, I'm a dork and actually took pictures of my television.

Anyway, Corinne and Annie came over for a late night visit and we had a good girl talk session!

October 6th, 2011 (Day 279)

Despite being stuck inside all day interning, I noticed how gorgeous the trees are! Annmarie and Fi came over later on in the day so we took the pups for a nice walk enjoying the beautiful nature surrounding us. :P

Fall is my favorite season. This being one of the main reasons why!

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

October 5th, 2011 (Day 278)

Today was another rough day. I really wasn't feeling well at all, despite sleeping over 12 straight hours last night. I was a vegetable on the couch most of the day. Lauren and I decided to skip our seminar class since we felt so crappy.

Animals are amazing! They always seem to know when you aren't feeling well and need to be cuddled. I love my baby boy!
